Welcome
Welcome to the home page of Teign Film Makers Club, which meets in Teignmouth on a fortnightly basis from September through to June. Our new season for 2008-2009 begins properly on 15th September with an opening meeting and social. Whether you are a complete beginner or seasoned 'prosumer', you are warmly invited to join us and to see what the coming season has in store. Our programme for the coming season can be found on the programme page. If you would like to come along and see what we are all about, you will find directions on the maps page. We are valiantly steered through each season by the committee members who give up their spare time to assist in the running of the club. We try throughout the season to keep members up to date in the news section so that those unable to attend a meeting can understand what has been happening.
An important part of our year is the Teign Cup. 2008 sees the 33rd time this annual competition has been held and the Teign Cup page provides details othe the event along with an entry form with rules. This years competition will be held on 4th October.
The Teign Film Makers Club is affiliated to the Institue of Amateur Cinematographers (IAC), also known as the Film and Video Institute. The IAC group clubs together by area and we are part of the Southern Counties (SOCO) region.
Our Aim
Teign Film Makers Club aims to promote and encourage the making of better films. To help members to make their films more enjoyable by improving techniques, exchanging ideas and discussing problems.
A Change Of Name
After nearly 40 years the TEIGN CINE & VIDEO CLUB has changed to a new name. At the Annual General Meeting 2006 there was a lengthy and lively discussion. With some 15 options to choose from, it was decided eventually that the name should change and henceforth it would be known as TEIGN FILM MAKERS CLUB. It is felt that this more accurately describes the reasons for the club's existance. Although video has become the main medium for portraying events and visualising stories, the end product is always known as a film. Similarly, meetings are not devoted to viewing or discussing trends in commercial cinema, or the merits of Hollywood or Continental blockbusters. The aim of the club will continue to be "to promote and encourage the making of better amateur films". There is no restriction on age, sex or ethnic origin, just an interest in making our own "movies". The club logo "THE SMUGGLER" remains the same to maintain the continuity of purpose as the only club of it's type between EXETER and PLYMOUTH.
